I'm Here

I should probably write a disclaimer before I write about this saying;
This is a completely biased review of this short on the basis that I love Andrew Garfield's and Spike Jonze's work and hence by them working together it's like all my Christmases and birthdays come at once.

Okay now that's over let's get to the good stuff. Essentially this a sci-fi romance film and sorry fangirls but there are no vampires or werewolves. And in spite of or maybe because of the fact that the actors are all playing robots and not the shiny macbook pro equivalent of a robot but more a mid 90's apple PC, that is to say quaint but ultimately not sexy, that is unless you love a nerd in which case this is for you.

Essentially it tells the story of Sheldon (best name ever) a robot who has become increasingly disenchanted with his mundane, monotonous existence in a world where humans and robots co-exist but robots are second class citizens. One day he sees a fellow robot called Francesca and is intrigued by her disregard for convention. The film charts their falling in love and the impact that these two very different spirits have on each other, leading to both of them having a more complete awareness of their actions and the consequences. I'm reluctant to give away too much of the plot but I will say that it is beautifully shot and acted and definitely worth the 30 minute run time out of your day. It is simple and sensitive and ultimately very affecting.

It was actually made for absolut vodka but this is neither here nor there as when watching it you are not aware of any product placement that detracts from the action

Watch it now
